The Commando was manufactured as a variation of the Official Police, with specifications determined by the U.S. Government. Production was limited to the filling of Government contracts, and the allocation of revolvers was under the jurisdiction of a special federal agency. Commandos went to policemen, defense factory guards, the Maritime Commission, and similar non-military groups. Variations within the production run are limited. However, Commandos are often seen with special roll marks, usually on the backstrap or butt. Among these are designations identifying the weapon as originally used by the U.S.Army, Navy, Coast Guard and so forth. Total production was 50,617s, serial numbered from #1 on up. Manufactured from 1942 through 1945. The only finish these were made in was Parkerized. The grips were checkered "Coltwood" (Plastic with molded logos), like those on the lower left of those pictured on this auction. I would think someone has taken a lot of time and spent a lot of unrecoverable money to make this "custom" gun appeal to them. Price range on nice original guns for 90 to 100% condition is between $375 and %550. You would expect to pay much less for a non-original gun as a shooter. Should be a nice gun to shoot and definitely an "eye-catcher." If I was to be buying it, I wouldn't pay over $250, the amount I think a very nice shooter would be worth to me. Others could see it differently. Definitely not an original factory finished gun! Hope this helps!

RP has covered it.
I about choked when I saw this revolver. I e-mailed the owner to suggest that the revolver is not original. He claims to have paid big bucks for it. Sad.0 -
Saxon, ....I think this nickel could be new! Does that make it 100%?

I emailed the Lady and she said she now
knows she got taken. She was just unaware
of what she was buying. She was going
to list the gun under lessons learned.
