Scope Mounts for 1894 Marlin Cowboy
I have decided to remove the Weaver see through mounts from this rifle--my wife can't get comfortable with them. I need advice regarding bases (1 piece or 2 piece) and ring height (low or medium)so I don't have to remove the iron sights. The scope is a Weaver 2-10 x 38. Any help would be much appreciated.

I would go with a one piece base and medium rings. Get a nice set of Burris Z rings as opposed to Weaver rings. The Burris are better quality and look nicer than the Weavers. I have had problems with Weaver rings in that when you tighten the screws, the scope turns in the ring due to the fact that Weavers only tighen on one side of the ring.

I suggest you use the weaver one piece base and the lowest rings that will allow your scope to clear.

Best thing you have done is remove the see-thru mounts. I have absolutley no use for them, and I advocate that quite frequently.
If you use a scope and occasionally the iron sights, use a good base with detachable rings. It doesn't take long to remove the scope, and the scope will always come back to zero. You may also consider installing a set of pivot mounts. I've had good luck with those.
Leupold makes an excellent set of quick detachable rings that will fit on the Weaver base. With those, you can have the scope off within 5 - 10 seconds.
As far as the height goes, you will have to play with that after the base is on, that will depend on the length of the scope, and the comb of the stock, and if it's going above the rear sight or behind it. Above all, get it as low as possible, you will shoot better with it that way.
Note; The comb of the stock has to come into consideration mostly, for the best fit.
