I inherited a Winchester 38/55 from my great grandfather. I'm curious about it's background and present day value. Gun in fair condition, operable.Bluing mostly gone.

  Sir-We'll need some more details of the condition of this piece to make an accurate evaluation. Many things are important in arriving at a determination. Is the barrel round or octagon? How long is it? How is the bore? Stock? Approx. serial number range (example: 43,XXX), which will allow us to give you a year of mfg., etc. The trend today is to rate conditon by percentage of original finish remaining--20%, 50%, etc. Lacking a more detailed description I'll hazard a guess of $450.
