converting 7.62 russian to .30 WSM
I need the opinion of a gunsmith on this one. I have a Polish M-44 in 7.62 Russian.I compared the overall length to .30 WSM.They are almost identical. The case-head of the magnum fits the bolt face perfectly.I don't know if they headspace the same way.I have read that this action is as strong as the mauser action.this action would be dynamite in .30 WSM!Can this chamber be reamed to accept the .30 WSM cartridge? Are the bullet diameters the same? If not,can I load new brass with proper diameter bullets? Many thanks

The 7.62x54R is a rimmed case that headspaces on the case rim. The .300 WSM headspaces on the belt.
I would not consider that a suitable action for conversion.

Er, excuse me Doc, think you have a typo there. Doesn't the .30 WSM headspace on the shoulder? 0 -

I.Shute: You are wright, the .300 Winchester Short Magnum is a newer beltless cartridge. It does head space of the shoulder. I would keep the M-44 just like it is. 0 -
Yep that's correct. I got stuck on the .300 Win Mag.
Makes it an even worse conversion.
