cwinn , i have 3 lowers and four uppers . they all interchange readily . one of them is a rock river and i'm very happy with the quality and workmanship .it is the best fit, top to bottom , that i have.
the only problem you will run into is colt's large front pin ar's,so ask to be sure you have the proper pin size . also do not get a preban upper if you have a post ban lower .hope this helps, wrench.

The uppers and lowers are assempled with push pins by hand. You only need a few tools and a good vise to assemble an upper from components and that's no big deal.

If you buy an upper and lower all you ned is a set of pin punches.
The barrel will come mounted and headspaced.

Any thoughts on the no-name brand complete upper units I see advertised in Shotgun news for around $400 complete with bolt and carrier? Serviceable, reliable stuff or get-what-you-pay-for? I've seen some complete preban CAR kits from J&T, Model "1" Sales and American Spirit for around $450. Worth the money or save the money for Bush, Colt or RR?
