Tasco super sniper scopes(Hakko)
Has anyone out there have any problem's with these scopes breaking? I have several of these and have had four seperate failures. Two have broken glass pieces within the scope(under eyepiece) and one had the reticle turn/rotate. The other one had the cross hatch marks on the turret spin(it seems to be glued on) All repairs were covered under the lifetime warranty by tasco. I now purchase nightforce and leupold, a bit pricey but no down time. By the way Tasco is going out of business and all of their repairs are being handled by Abo USA Inc. in Miami Florida. Here is a link to explain: http://www.tascosales.com/letter.asp

My experience with scopes has been that you really do get what you pay for in this segment. I used to buy the cheap scopes like Simmons, Tasco and even Bushnell, but after buying my Dad a Leupold for his .243 I realized what I was missing out on. Now I like having a decent scope and not changing out broken cheapies once a year or more. 0 -
I have 2 of the Tasco SS in 20X and i've been very impressed with both, one mounted on a Steyr SSG 69 (.308) and the other on my G3 Tactical (also .308) ... have shot over 1000 rounds with each scope, no loss of zero, tracking or any other problems ...

The only bad thing about choosing a Kimber ...
... there are so darn many models to choose from!

kimberkid,
That Tasco SS is one hell of a scope. Did you know that the SS10x42 was awarded a contract for the Navy Seals? They beat out Bausch&Lomb on the deal. The Army also uses them.
After Tasco ran out of them, SWFA set up a deal with Tasco and had a bunch more made. Was thinking of getting one myself.
I have the Titan 30mm models in 1.25-4.5x30, 1.5-6x42 and 3-12x52, and am impressed with them, but I haven't tried one on a rifle yet. Will do so pretty soon.

bullelk,

That was the only reason I even tried one as I've had poor luck with almost every Tasco I've ever had ... not that I'd buy them, most of the ones I've had came on guns I traded for ... The only other good Tasco I've had was a rubber armored 3-9X40 Delta Elite with intergal rings that I had years ago ... wish I'd never let it go ...

Thanks guys! Yes it was awarded U.S. Navy Contract #N00164-93-C-205d. It is not made by tasco but by Hakko in japan. Tasco is just the distributor. It originally sold for $800( My friend has the original $800 version and it says fobus on it and includes a can meter). It is supposed to be a really godd scope for the money($299 , $399 for side focus)The older versions have a really define click when adjusting the turrets but newer ones do not.The scopes hold zero well and are very repeatable when adjusting and re-zeroing. Just wanted to see what the failure rate was. Thanks again! Rayzor25 0 -
I know this is a really old thread, we just joined and I wanted to clarify that Hakko has never had anything to do with our SS line of scopes. 0 -
I'm also very leary of getting a contract from the Navy Seals. This doesn't mean that the Navy Seals use this scope. It can mean that the Navy wanted some scopes for T&E and one of the scopes they were willing to test was the SS. The contract may have called for 5 scopes to be sent to the Navy so they can test them. Has anyone seen the actual contract? I'd be very scared if the best our Navy is using is a Tasco. 0 -
You have to understand first that tasco is and was just a name. They chose to source mainly low end products for retail distribution. The SS was built to the exact specification that the contract dictated by a factory in Japan. This is the only product that this factory ever made for tasco. Tasco could offer any quality level of product they desire because everything is just sourced by various factories in the orient. 0 -
Hakko (I pronounce it as 'hocker'--meaning to "spit out") isn't loved by any quality scope maker. They private labeled for some, and QC was atrocious. Consistently....inconsistent!
Literally I would take exact models, from same batch, test for Tracking, and Range Focus and each would be different. Not even close enough to put on a Red Rider BB gun.
Since Hakko was paid before they shipped, they held up warranty, replacements, and denied problems causing great embarrasment, anger, and financial loss.
They even violated patents.
Shepherd Scope (great scope that works) reticule is one example. Early Shepherds were made by 'hocker' (Hakko). FYI, Nikons BDC is 'treading' on Shepherds patent also.
Springfield Armory had also felt the financial pain, and embarrassment of using them. No longer marketing them.
Another nameless major top of the world quality scope company cut all ties, replaced scopes FREE with another maker, loss alot of $$$$, and ran away from 'hocker' (Hakko).
Is very seldom I offer personal opinions of this type, buTT facts are facts. Personally, because of professional ethics, the stink of dealing w/a skunk company I wouldn't use one unless I needed a hammer.0 -
Good information, G&G, but SWFA has already told us that Hakko had nothing to do with the SS scope.
SWFA also told us Tasco didn't make them.
So, that leaves only 1 question: Who DID make them? They were made for SWFA, so SWFA should know who they bought them from.
