I doubt very much that any Dan Wesson would be less than an excellent gun. Would definitely recommend that you look at one in comparison to others in the same price range such as a Colt Kimber or Springfield Armory. The Wessons never seem to get the market or mind share they deserve, but I think that it is more of business issue than quality or performance.

I'm a Dan Wesson Master Dealer, as well as a Kimber Master Dealer, and have compared the two side-by-side. The DW Pointman Major pistol compares very well to the Kimber Gold Match... for $300-$400 less at retail. I sell the Major at $729.

Very tight gun, excellent fit and finish. I have had one Pointman Minor (compares favorably to the base model Kimber but $200 less) return because the grip screw bushings were not staked well enough. Minor problem, 10 minute fix. Customers are uniformly reporting excellent groups with the DW's.

The good Dr. has given the correct info again. I Have a very low # Guardian Duce (Commander) and have been very impressed with it. The quality of mine compares quite favorably with any of the current crop of commercial 1911s. I also think that DW is a far underated company. Their current manufacture is among the best quality and very innovative.

I guess I won't be buying anymore new Kimbers, I refuse to be Kalifornicated by the Kimber II models ... Thanks for the review! I've been wondering about them myself ... I'm well aware of DW quality ... although I don't NEED another 1911 style pistol, its not really about "need" anyway

Kimber and all the other manufactures (as well as ammo suppliers) need to boycott Kalifornia, until gunowners out there get off their butt and do something about their laws or learn to live without ... I know this doesn't apply to all Kalifornia gunowners, some are working very hard, but its not getting the job done ... then the wacky CA ideas spread like cancer to the rest of us.

Dan Wesson HAS boycotted California. As of my last conversation with the factory, there are no current plans to submit models for DOJ's testing.

I recently sold Pointman Minor #13, and have Pointman Major #201 (blue) in stock. Beautiful pistol.

    kimberkid:

For the ignorant among us(e.g. yours truly), could you tell us what Kimber has done to rouse your ire? I gather they have submitted to some unreasonable CA law; please fill in the details if you have a chance. Thanks.

Although I've not seen anything in print (and I don't expect too), its my firm belief that the reason the whole the Kimber II line (which incorporates a firing pin disconnect safety) was developed to pass the Kalifornia DOJ tests. Even though their design "doesn't have an adverse result to trigger pull" (like the Colt 1991 design) they are "forcing" the Kalifornia regulations on the rest of the country, by phasing out all the original 1911 designs and replacing them with Kimber II's ... that outrages me! Its kind of like the way Colt removed the bayonet lug and installed a sear block starting in 89 (I beleive). This was way before it was legislated by the 94 Assault Weapon Ban ... although these features are mostly insignificant, why "offer up" (read "bend over") to the gun grabbers without a fight?
