You very clearly do not know much about 1911s. Go ahead and buy you a cheep 1911 pistol. Kimbers are pricey for a good reason. I own two and love them.

I must disagree with rogerreloader in that I don't find Kimbers to be all that expensive in the grand scheme of the 1911 market. They are great guns and I would highly recommend them. I have a Custom and it's a hell of a gun for the price. I was going to suggest that if you were looking to spend over $1000, check out the Gold Match, but obviously price is a concern as per your comments about the Charles Daly.

I haven't held a Kimber, but if it is a 1911 you will have the same problem with your hand, as the 1911 grip is thinner than the Glock. The Para Ordnance may be better as it is a double stack and the grip is much thicker. Whatever you get make sure it has a wide beaver tail safety and Commander Style Hammer (round) I have small hands and with a stock 1911 Springfield I often get bit in the web of my hand but I can shoot the Para all day. You may also need wider grip panels to fill your hand better. There are a few co. that make these.

The Charles Daily is a good gun, but when it comes to the 1911 I have to say Kimber is the best choice. The only thing I hold against the non 1911 Kimber is its low mag capacity.

    Good Luck.

Between the two choices.....Kimber. Others you might consider is Para Ordance or a Sig. I have a couple of shooting buddies who have Glocks and now is looking for a Sig. Glocks are great, but my Sig P220 feels better to them than their own. More so with your situation, make sure it fits you. Good luck! GD

    roger:
Many of us who ask questions on this forum, including At The Gates, are well aware of our ignorance -that's why we ask questions.

    Gates:
I've only handled the guns, viewed their websites, and monitored this forum. Daly has gotten both positive and negative reviews here, but Kimber is an American-manufactured, premium weapon and is a top vote-getter on this forum. Other experts here laud Springfield Armory's products also -you may want to check them out. I, who am not an expert, wish you well in your decision.

Get a WILSON. They blow Kimber away. Trust me. They are pricey. But they jam. Well built. The best.

Gates, Go Kimber, buying a quality firearm is an investment. It is worth getting the best you can afford even if you have to wait a couple of months to get the right one. JMTCW

I would recommend the Kimber. I have two and they function well. I would also look at the Springfields. I prefer US made guns, and the Charles Daly guns are made in the Phillipines. The Wilsons are wonderful guns, but expensive. Wilson uses Kimber slides and frames as the basis of the guns he builds. If you stick with Kimber, Springfield, or Colt; you will have a gun that can be upgraded with endless modifications if you so choose or will have good value If you want to sell or trade.

If you have definitely narrowed down between Kimber and Daly, the decision is easy buy Kimber. If you go with a Daly Custom Model II you are talking less than $100/$150.00 price difference. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

Charles Daily's get what you pay for, compare them side by side with a kimber and you'll see where they've cut corners, and how loose they really are. My advice is if your going to get a decent side arm, get the Kimber. In my opinion, when you buy a kimber, you get more than you pay for. You might also look into Springfield Armory, they are on the same playing field as Kimber, same price range and quality. Charles Daily's are cheap .45's, they are good starts for people who don't have alot of cash, but nothing near the quality of a kimber. You talking the difference between the latest in CNC machineing and some poor philipean guy trying to crank out as many as he can on an old hand press....

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

Spend the money and get a Kimber or Springfield Armory. If you are really serious, look into Wilson or Les Baer or Ed Brown.

A Kimber (or a Springfield) is a far better gun than a Charles Daly.

That having been said, any 1911 copy or clone can be easily modified to avoid thumb-web pinch by the addition of a longer tang grip safety, or by switching to a Commander style hammer.
