The spring is integral with the gate. All one piece. I repaired one of these for a coworker's husband. Had to detail strip the receiver, remove the loading gate and straighten the spring. It worked out OK, but probably the gate should have been replaced.

Try tightening the screw on the side of the receiver in back of the loading port.

Both of the preceding posts are correct. The loading gate is it's own spring, is the last part to come out when detail stripping the receiver, and is held on by the screw at the end of it's tail; which can be successfully tightened on the outside of the receiver, if it hasn't come completely loose. It will help if you drop the lever, opening the bolt, and stick your finger or a screwdriver down against the inside of the gate when tightening the screw. Sooner or later most lever action owners run up against this repair.

'der' is right, after you tighten the screw put a little lock tight on the screw head

Thanks for the advice, I'll try the screw when I get home tonight. Hope it's this simple.

    Cletis,
How did you make out with your loading port?

Bullelk You were right about the screw, it was a few turns loose. I'm glad it was that simple. Works great, Thanks John

    Gentlemen,

Thank you for posting this...i been trying to figure out how to fix mine for a while now. When I would cock it the lever would get stuck and I would have to use a screwdriver to push the ejector off the loading door.

I do still have a question thought. My Marlin 336 does not have the RC after the 336. What does this mean? It just says "Mod. 336 Cal .35 Rem".

    Many Thanks.
