Which Target 22
I am more and more in the mood to get a really good target 22 pistol to use. I might end up with a tricked out Ruger (had one once), but I am considering either a Model 41 S&W or a Beretta 87. I've never shot either of the latter and I'd probably have to order one even to look at them. The Beretta looks like it might work for me as I use a 92 Elite II and the grip looks the same.

The Baikal target pistol is a very good choice. There are a couple of web sites that discuss this gun in great detail - its good enough that Walther is "refining it" (new grips) and putting their name on it and charging a lot of money for them. Another excellent target pistol is the Pardini SP, available from Don Nygord.
Hamden High Standards are often excellent, check the right side of the frame for cracks - they crack from HV ammo being used in them. If you get one, replace the springs and you should be set.
Another excellent choice - if you have a 1911 frame to mount it on is the Marvel conversion from http://www.marvelprecision.com/ These are really good.
I shot the already mentioned Hammerli 208s for awhile, I didn't care for it. I'm using a Pardini now and am considering returning to the Marvel on a Kimber Gold Match frame.0 -
I am biased. I have a couple of Ruger Mark II's, both with bull barrels and target sites in blue and stainless. As you know, they are built like tanks and very accurate with lots of add on's to trick it out. I don't know much about the others that you mentioned, but still would go with the Ruger. GD 0 -
I prefer the Smith 41, has the weight, feel, and ergonomics of a 1911...one of the reasons so many use it in the 3 gun events. I think they have better sights and the barrels can be easily changed or taken off for cleaning. 0 -
I have a Ruger Mark II slab-side and it was more accurate out of the box than my shooting buddies "performance enhanced" standard Mark II. It has one of the best factory triggers on a .22 pistol I have ever shot. It does come with scope rings if you really want to knock fleas off a dog's butt at 50 yards.

i have a ruger markII tircked out with the volquartson v2000 system absolutly the most accurate pistol i have had the pleasure to shoot
you can be king or street sweeper but everyone is going to dance with the reaper0 -
If your a 1911 fan as I am go wit the Ruger 22/45 with bull barrel. It feels just like a 1911 in your hand,or the Ruger MKII is a good option. I have a Sig Trailside and it doesnt shoot as well for me as the Rugers do.

I have to recommend the mod 41. Out of the box it has the best trigger and there is nothing to "trick out" It's ready for competition the way it is. 0 -
Browning Buckmark 5.5" Target. Comes standard w/heavy barrel, full-length scope mount and hooded target sights. It'll do more for accuracy than most shooters are capable of.
And, It's a BROWNING.

I use the Ruger M-II 10" bull barrel with scope, and I can take the fleas off a dogs butt at 50 yards. LOL

Model 41 is superior to anything in its price class. I have both Mark II's & 41's so I think I'm being fair. The rugars can be a pain to take down for cleaning. I laughed for 5 minutes watching my Dad fool with his Ruger until he gave up trying to get back together. I put it together for him & showed him the proper way to do it but he won't take apart now. He makes me do it. RG 0 -
The Hammerli 208s is used to separate the microbes of the micro-organisms off the fleas of pickenups dogs butt. But it would take three mod 41s for the price.
You might also consider one of the used, 'good' High Standard target models.

I am really partical to Ruger Mark II, but I believe I would go with the S&W 41....The most accurate .22 I have ever fired was I believe the model is the 252 Freedom Arms. A buddy is into shooting those little Chickens, Pigs, turkeys and Rams. What an accurate piece.
I bet he could shoot a hair off the rump of the microbe on the flea sitting on the Dog's butt...or something like that...

I'm with Spring Creek. I own 3 different models of the buckmark, 1 with the heavy barrel, and their capabilities are greater than my shooting ability. IMHO I figure that to be pretty darn good.
I also have a mark II, and I like it alot too, but to me the buckmark just feels better.0 -
Gun Test magazine just tested the model 87 and they really liked it, they seemed to like the fact that "the grip strongly resembles the 92 series pistol". Accuracy testing at 25 yds with 5 different load averaged 1" or less.
My dad was on the Ft. Leonard Wood Army pistol team in the late 60's and he shot a model 41, you couldn't prove to him its not the best out there.

Well I don't have a dog (my cat acts like one but that's another story...), but I might end up with more than one target pistol being that I shoot 1911s as well as Beretta 92s...Good feedback from all, thanks!!!
