    PJ: if you are going to shoot at cowboy matches then you will need to say with low vel. rounds with lead bullets only like those from PMC or Ultramax comes to mind, if you are going to use it for hunting then any good 158 gr or heavier load should work find ,, buy several different kinds and see what the rifle likes ,, many time you will find the a rifle will shoot some brands better than others, its just a matter of shooting different makes and types of bullets to see what the rifle does

    I have the 1894C (Carbine Version) Marlin short barrel 357 lever action. It likes just about any jacketed bullet, it absolutely hates lead bullets. I can clover jacketed bullets out to 75yds, with lead, I shoot more of a pattern than a group. Like stated in the other posts, buy different ammo off the shelf and compare performance. I would clean the barrel after each type of ammo shot.
