Wow, I guess I've never thought about it. I usually only see the square ones stocked so that's what I grab. They work fine as far as I'm concerned.

I generally grab round ones, but I really can't see much difference either way.

Want diamond shaped patches?? Do what I do and grab a pair of scissors and an old tee shirt. Customize the patches to your application. Round, square, diamond shaped or I'm particularly fond of rectangular patches.

    Guilty until proven innocent...

If I'm using a jag, I use the round, otherwise square, and often self-cut rectangular, particularly in larger bores.

I cant see where there would be any difference I have always used square ones. It might be worth experimenting with !!

I generally just hack a piece off of a t-shirt... could be square, rectagular, or a shapeless mass and I don't notice any improvement one way or another.

I've used all of the above shapes and alll work well. when I'm done wetting, brushing, etc. I wad up a piece of toilet paper so it fits tightly in the bore and shove it through with the rod. This pushes "everything" out the end of the barrel and works better than any patches. It forces up into the lands and grooves and works like a "pig in a pipeline". Try it. KG

I use whatever I have on hand, or, like the others, take the
scissors and cut one to size from an old t-shirt. I haven't
    noticed any difference.

When I need a diamond shaped one I just rotate a square one 45 degrees. Seems to work fine.
