NAA Derringer Misfires
I have a North American Arms revolving derringer in .22 mag. I bought it used at a gun show and really don't care to shoot it too much, but those times I have shot it, it seems I frequently have one missfire in the five rounds. When this happens I spin the shell a bit and try again, and it will fire. I'm using CCI ammo.
I do like reliability in my firearms, while I doubt I'd ever use this for personal self defense, I would like to make sure it functions properly when I pass it down to one of my kids. I know they may toss it in a jewlery box and never think to using it unless some situation comes up when they had to, and then they might not have the time to check it for function and make any necessary adjustments. So I'd like to figure out how to get reliable function from this gun. If it's simply a matter of switching ammo, at least I'd know to pass along a box of a particular brand of ammo with the gun.
Better yet, I'd like to be able to get it to fire reliably with any ammo. I'm wondering if a bit of re-shaping of the hammer might be in order. Any other suggestions?

If the hammer is striking the rim of the shell and its not going off sounds like the ammo. But if it is not striking the Rim send it back to NAAs they will make it right with you. I own one as well and have found it to be the safest pocket pistol around,as the hammer rest between the two rounds all the way around the cylinder.

NAA pistols are guaranteed for life. Send the pistol back. It shouldn't be your lookout to find which are hard and soft primers. The gun should fire them all reliably. 0 -
I have shot mine quite a bit, using different kinds of ammo. Never had a misfire yet. Send it back. NAA is good with customer relations, mine had the old grips that cracked. They sent new grips, no charge. Only bad thing with these is that you DO have to be on the inside of the barn to hit the barn wall. LOL I took it to the range once and had everyone try to punch paper, at 15 yards, with it. Even the range master. No one could. Finally found if you aimed about 1 1/2 feet low and to the left, it would consistantly put holes in the paper.
If I knew then, what I know now.0
