New England Firearms Muzzleloaders
I am in the process of looking for a muzzleloader and saw a New England Firearms Huntmaster (.50 caliber) at a local gun store for $139. Does anyone know if they are a very good gun - accuracy, ignition system, durability? My experience with NEF centerfire rifles is that they are resonably accurate - is this true for their muzzleloaders also? Does anyone know if the .50 caliber is better or worse than the .45 caliber, or is it more a matter of preference? My goal is to hunt deer with it, with a maximum range of approximately 150 yards. Any suggestions, recomendations, or knowledge will be appreciated. Thanks.

i shoot a tc encore 50 i really love it or anything tc makes /i was looking at the N E .50 at my local gun store it sells here for $119 they are supposed to be really acc. and you can buy 4 of them for what i paid for my tc best of luck
you can be king or street sweeper but everyone is going to dance with the reaper0 -
If you are looking for an in-line, I think highly of my TC Black Diamond. If you want a more traditional muzzleloader, many shops have used TC Hawkens and decent prices. Very solid rifle. 0 -
Don't know much about the NEF Muzzleloader. But, my first muzzleloader was one of those cheap sidelock CVA Bobcats or what ever they are called. Got it for around $ 80, but by the time I put an adjustable rear sight on it and then had it driled & tapped, it wasn't all that inexpensive anymore. It works, but it is still a sidelock with a trigger that isn't real good, and it is on the wall now. My next muzzleloader was a Knight Wolverine .54 cal. Love it. Natchez had a close out on this particular variation (54 cal, thumbhole stock) for about $ 195. Since it came with an adjustable trigger, aluminum ramrod, good sights and was already driled & tapped for a scope - not to mention being a Knight - I went for it. It shoots better than I can hold it. Only down side is having to completely disassembly it to clean the barrel.
Anyway, what I'm getting at is pay close attention to the features that whatever model you chose, has. I think they are about all drilled & tapped now but an adjustable trigger is huge & worth a few dollars more.0
