Pretty much all of the better brands use the same locks. (Sargeant and Greenleaf). I would recommend one with these brand locks. other than that, as long as it has a fire lining, and locking rods in the sides, and top of the door, it will serve the purpose. the only other decision is the color.

I have an FN security (browning)

    Browning
    Winchester
    Remington
    Liberty
    etc

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

I went with a Browning too. Some say they are overpriced (you're paying for the name) but I liked the features and I'm totally satisfied. I got the Platinum model in the new standard size (they were only available in the large size before) and it's fine for my collection; I've only got handguns so the 60x30x27 size was OK.

Whatever you get, try and get at least the features JustC described; I'd add that you should get the most substantial safe you can afford (weight). It's best to have it bolted to the floor but if that's not feasible, weight's the next best thing.

You'll have a good safe and that's definitely better than no safe.

I went with the Liberty Washington 40 model. Setup to hold 32 long guns thinking it was way bigger tha I would ever need. That was 7 years ago now I have 1 slot left to fill. I have seen alot of safes before my purchase and after and I have yet to find one of better quality or price!

I went with Liberty Wshington Model 50. Not the cheapest but quality and features are the best I believe. Buy the biggest you can afford. Make sure and get a dehumidier. I got the "Goldenrod", plugs into 110 wall outlet.

Like most things you get what you pay for...safes are no exception. If you spec out the differences, you'll find better quality safes have more steel, more cubic inches, better fire protection, and nicer finishes. Cheaper safes cut corners in these areas. Most buyers will either be purchasing for quality or looking at price....lots of good safes on the market, but few will hold a candle to National Security.

Mine's a Magnum Plus National Security, 1" thick drill plate door, double steel lined with fire retardant poured in between, gold plated hardware...my only regret is I didn't get the digital lock. Here is a link with all the specs....

One thing to remember about safes, is that there are not too many safe
manufacturers. The gun manufacturers don't make the safes with their name on them. Personally I have one with "Weatherby" on in, but
Weathery didn't make it. I believe that the safe companies say
"well what name are we going to paint on them today", depending on
which gun company orders how many. Most, if not all, use one or two
locks of another company. So,,,don't go by the gun company name on
it. Pick out one that has the features you want and don't pay too much attention what name is on it. Most all offer the same features.

I think my next safe will be a Zanotti Armor. They are made of 6 interlocking sections, so you don't need to hire piano movers when you relocate.

CONSIDER THE CANNON 50" WIDE 72" HIGH IF YOU HAVE A NUMBER OF GUNS.
WITH ELECTRIC COMBO SHOULD BE ABOUT $1750 - $1850. THE 72" VS 60" GIVES A LOT OF ADDED PISTOL, SCOPE, & MISC. STORAGE.
WEIGHT A KEY CONSIDERATION - THIS CANNON ABOUT 1100# PLUS GUNS (60@ 5# AVG IS ANOTHER 300+ #s - NOT FOR A WEAK FLOOR (PLUS THE JOB OF MOVING IT AROUND.) CHECK DOOR OPENINGS FOR CLEARANCE - GENERALLY NO PROBLEM EXCEPT HOUSE TRAILERS. "BIGGER IS BETTER"

i recently bought an american security 60x40. it is a very nice safe .
i did make an oversite i'd like to pass on .after getting the safe home and settled in i started to load my guns . first the collectables and rarely used guns then the hunting rifles and plinkers .....
last the shotguns . living in western n.y. shotguns are your most often reached for . then my oversite , the large capacity magizines will not fit into the barrel rests . i have 4 shotguns that have to be stored broken down . i think i can raise up the barrel rest shelf but i have to build a extension as the safe is set up 1/3 shelf 2/3's gun storage . so be careful in your interior choices , this problem could
of easily been avoided. one more thing , it's almost full ! get the biggest one you can afford .

I forget the brand I have It's stored at my dads home, however I will tell you this don't believe the number of gun's they say they it will hold. Mine is a 28 place gun safe, however you will never fit 28 in it. So I suggest to buy bigger than you think you need.

I'm pleased with my Browning - I agree get more that you think you'll need. By the time you put a few household valuables in it the space is all used up!
