Marston Value Question
Can anyone tell me what a SxS Marston 12G shotgun w/exposed hammer muzzleloading gun from 1865 might be worth?. It has damascus barrels, the wood is cracked in a couple of places but the action works great.

I haven't been able to find out too much about Marston firearms, except that the company apparently started into business in the 1850s, and that they are considered collector pieces. The company was mostly known for pepperbox-type handguns, deringers, and other small handguns, but did make some rifles and shotguns. I found sort of an oblique reference on page 549 of "Flayderman's Guide To Antique American Firearms....and their values", 5th Edition, under "Marston Breech-Loading Percussion Rifle" where it states, "Shotgun: Approximatly 70 Caliber, Various barrel lengths: Values-Good $425 Fine $850". I am not personally acquainted with Mr. Flayderman, but he apparently entertains inquiries such as yours as he has included his address in a couple of places in his book, and if I were you I would write him a letter and directly ask your question. I would include a detailed description of the gun, and photos if possible.
