LEO mags

I was reading another post and a reply about LEO mags brought up a question. A friend of mine bought a Sig P226 from a LEO. One of the mags was a hi-cap LEO. How would you go about getting rid of it? Can you just bring it to your local LE agency without fear of legal reprecussions (sp)?

Maybe, maybe not, since mere possession of such is a serious violation.

Our PD uses all SIG handguns. If you send it to me, I will see it gets to a good home.

I have two thoughts on this one. Most likely your friend could turn it in to his/her local agency without problems. Think of it this way - if you find a bunch of drugs and turn them in, technically you are in possession of them when you do. But there is no criminal intent, and (in theory) no crime. No agency is going to waste time and money to pursue an issue like this. My second thought is this - The LEO that sold him the gun commited a crime by selling the LEO Only mag in the first place. Have him replace the mag.

Just curious, but is the mag clearly marked "Law Enforcement"? I assume yes, if so, then I agree that the LEO who sold it should take the mag back and replace it with a 10 rd mag. If not marked, it is probably pre-ban and legal in most states.

I would take mag back to LEO who sold it to you illegally and have him exchange it for a non-LEO mag. He should have known better in the first place. If seller can't be found, the next best thing to do is send it to Nunn. I am sure he won't get you in trouble. GD

I'd grease it, seal it up and bury it, saving it for "a rainy day".

There is a chance (not likely) that the ban will be allowed to "sunset"--you could dig it up then, if that happened.

What is the difference between pre ban and law inforcement? Probably nothing a dremel tool wouldn't take care of... Keep it!

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

I still can't figure out what the wound ballistic difference between a 10 round mag, 15 round pre-ban mag and 15 round post ban LE mag would be. What did I miss?

Those Clintonistas sure must have been mighty smart when they passed that law 'cause no gun owner I ever met can explain why a hollow metal mechanism with a spring should make a criminal out of its owner depending on its date of manufacturer, a stamp mark, its interior dimensions or the geographical location of its possession.

Saxon Pig - What, did you get a ticket lately? You seem to have a very poor opinion of our nations finest. Being serious, Who is to say Nunn is actually an Officer? (Besides him) I don't doubt that he is, but without knowing if you sent the mag to another non LEO wouldn't that be another crime for all of the "Pricks" to get you? Relax. Take it easy. We aint all that bad. And to quote your ending statement

I wouldn't bet my freedom on that. Call them first. "Criminal intent" is NOT a required element of weapons/drug possession laws. Mere possession is sufficient for a violation of the law to have occurred.

Exactly! This would be my first plan, but if you're really that worried about it (that means "they" are winning) then contacting the guy you bought it from would be the best route. He's not real likely to bust you for it, although he'll probably wonder why you're returning it!
It's a sad day when people are this worried about something this stupid.
