i don't have the serial # right now....i'd have to call my dealer....he just told me that the gun was sent without a shell casing.

The "shell casing" provision went into effect in Maryland on October 1, 2000. It only applies to new handguns, and the effective date is the date that the handgun was shipped or transported by the manufacturer. You didn't state if the gun is new or used; the serial # is not relevant.

Rather than have a lot of back and forth on this forum, I suggest that you phone Cpl Allen T. Albaugh in the MSP Firearms Registration Section, 410-799-5934 Ext 321. Since his office will ultimately either approve or deny your application, you can hang your hat on whatever he tells you.

Maryland is currently considering re-enacting legislation that would allow you to pay to have any new handgun fired by a licensed tester (for a fee, of course).

thanks.....the gun is new but my ffl told me if it was manufactored b/f oct. of 2001 a shell casing didn't have to come with the weapon.....i tried the number and all i got was the sound of a comp. trying to get on the internet.

This ballistic fingerprint thing has puzzled me. What prevents someone from replacing the barrel, slide and or extracter at any point in time? Wouldn't that change the 'fingerprint'? Maybe I'll take this over to General Discussion!!

GL - A few strokes of emery cloth over the firing pin, removing perhaps .0005" of metal, some chamber polishintg and guess what? End of "ballistic fingerprint." What a incredibly stupid piece of legislative sound bite.

Ooops, sorry. I gave the fax #. The correct # is 410-799-0191, Ext 321.

Oh, and > $5 million dollars has been spent by the state on this procedure, and not ONE crime has been solved. Obviously this means that we need additional legislation.

Hmmm...remove metal from firing pin with emery cloth to change ballistic signature...

Obviously we need some emergency legislation to ban the sale or posession of emery cloth.

**It is your right to posess a firearm. In case of questions, please refer to ammendment 2, United States Constitution.**

We have the same jackass law in NY state now. Began in March of last year.

Sounds like the legislators don't have a case but that's their shell game
