DPMS AR Barrels
Are the standard barrels from DPMS chrome lined? I can't find anything on the forum and they haven't e-mailed me back. Thanks.

Yes...
I don't think you can even buy an AR-15 barrel that isn't chrome lined, unless its a stainless match barrel.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

Lee, I think you're incorrect on that one. I have a 16" featherweight unchromed barrel and I believe Olympic or one of the major manufacturers made the claim of better accuracy from unchromed match chrome moly barrels. 0 -
I was under the impression that most chrome lined barrels were on the GI spec rifles (ar, m1a, etc) and the later models were either standard steel or stainless.
A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.0 -
Right. Chrome-lined barrels were introduced for the military, because their rifles are exposed to adverse weather conditions, as well as having hundreds of rounds fired, then not being cleaned for extended periods.
Chrome-lining a barrel actually hurts accuracy, because there's no way to control the thickness of the chrome plating throughout the length of the barrel. The varying thickness, or "waviness" causes the bullets to do all sorts of weird stuff, most commonly tumble.
If you keep your guns clean, there's no need for chrome lining.0 -
Oh, BTW- no, DPMS does not chrome line their barrels. 0 -
Okay "experts" I finally received an email back from DPMS and they said they don't chrome line any of their barrels since it reduces accuracy. Thanks for the fast responses though. You guys are okay, I don't care what they say about you. 0
