NMEYERS-Maryland transfers

Aside from the paranoia, much of the information on that thread is sadly correct.

Maryland residents must have an Application to Purchase a Regulated Firearm (Form 77R) approved by the state police for all handguns and "assault weapons". It really doesn't matter whether you go to a dealer or a state police barracks; the gun must be presented, and a background check must be run on the buyer. If the gun shows up stolen, expect it to be confiscated. For Maryland residents, this law SUPERCEDES federal law; that is clearly indicated in State Laws and Published Ordinance-Firearms (BATF P5300.5) page 1. If a BATF employee said otherwise, he was mistaken. Even C&R licensees are not exempt.

Questions can be directed to Cpl Allen Albaugh, Firearms Registration Section, 410-966-0071 X321.

POSH, that was my thread and as stated, SADLY, all of NMEYERS info is x-ring. When we called back to ask the ATF agent if MD law was of less consequence than federal law, we were told that, "we work hand in hand with the state police" which is basicaly your beurocratic response saying that you need to comply with BOTH state and Fed. laws. The state police are notified of all applications/background checks anyway, so the money savings at the state police station is just keeping more $$$ in your pocket. I have since talked to several people who do all their transfers there. I will be doing the transfer at the barraks this week and saving $50.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.
