  • What's the difference - if any - between chamfering and recessing the charge holes in a revolver's cylinder?

    Adavantages or disadvantages?

Thanks all for your replies, and Happy New Year!

    Edit: Outstanding pictures iceracer! Thanks.

As I remember the long has the same case length as the long rifle but the same bullet as the short.

The 22 short has a case length of 3/8" with about a 29 grain bullet and overall lenght of approx. 7/10". The long has a case of a little better 9/16" with the same bullet as a short, and the long rifle has the same case as the long, except it has a heavier bullet. From about 35 to 40 grains. Overall is almost an 1". If you're interested in cartridges, I suggest getting the book, "Cartridges of the World"

dont know what you are shooting at but 22lr are very inexpensive and better shooters. but then again I shoot squirrels and spinner targets. I really havnt tested out to 100yrds but still very accurate to 75yrds. and the squirrells are less than 25 so the little heads have a nice exit holes and the spinners spinnnnnnnnnnnnnn. and i dont see the shorts or longs in the stores in any quanity. Shoottill, the suggestion of Cartridges of the World is a good one. It will answer a number of the questions you have posted here, and will be available next time you have a question on cartridges or can't remember the answer. I use it and many other books a lot, but then I love books.

22 long rifle has about 170 ft lbs muzzle energy
    a 22 short is about 1/2 that.
