I would like to know if anyone can give me an idea of what would be a good scope to put on a Ruger Super Redhawk in 454 Casull?

I like the Leupold fixed 2 power. But I don't know how well they hold up under a cannon like that. I heard the Burris posi-loc is a good one for heavy recoil.

magnified scopes are nice, but for hunting, when you have to take many of your shots just at dark, I can't find the crosshairs. For hunting, I would suggest a red dot set-up. It's just point and pull when the shot comes in low light. For daytime hunts, the Burris magnified scopes are priced right, and they are high quality.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

I am only tellig you what research I have done about the subject. For I had trouble keeping the scope lined up on one of my hand canons. Every time I shot it two or three times it would jar it off sight. A local gun genius told me the scope or rings were not the main issue. Of course you need a good scope. But I let him take the gun and work on it and he said he lapped the scope/rings and I am using the same equipment without the problems I was having. Knock on wood. Hope this can be of help to you. By the way he charged me only $25.00 Bucks.

    Good Shooting.

Leupold M8 fixed 2x been working great for me so far on a .44 mag. Never shot the .454 so not sure how the two compares as far as recoil, but I think it should work fine. GD

I had a Redfield Golden 5 Star on my Taurus M44 and didn't have any problems.

Yes, for hunting, I'd recommend a red dot - light weight, easy to see at dusk, you can change the brightness & MOA settings on some for specific conditions. Carry an extra battery though. For target shooting, you might want to look at Thompson Center's handgun 'scopes for your palm-bruiser - they're built to stand up to the punishment & I think they even make an illuminated model as well. Lapping scope rings is always a good idea to make best use of the metal that's there & decrease the effect of a few ten thousandths too much or too little metal. Don't forget to align whatever you choose as closely as possible WITHOUT using the w/e screws; choose your rings carefully, shim or have machined as needed, center the crosshairs or red dot by placing the scope into v-notches cut in the sides on an appropriately sized cardboard box, then look thru the scope while you rotate it in the notches. You'll see how close you are to "perfect" alignment & can use the adjustment screws to bring your aim point into perfect centering.
