Opinions on Smith&Wesson SW40VE

Hey guys do any of you have any recomendations or warnings aout this gun? I found it for what seems to be a pretty good price at a sporting goods store for $300. Im looking for durabilty and accuracy for self defense/pleasure shooting.

Any opinions will be appriciated.

  From my limited experience with them, the Smith Sigmas are a bit controversial. Some love them, some hate them. (Kind of like Glocks.) Some say they are unreliable, and have horror stories to relate about the problems. Others say they have had no problems at high round counts. Accuracy is average, about the same as a Glock.
  
  I believe this Sigma is a later one, and there were improvements from the earlier ones. I have an early one and like it very much. However, my round count in it is not high. I think it points about the best of any gun out there. (I dislike the Glock grip angle.) The grip feel is great. The 15 rounds of magazine capacity is a plus. Magazines are not sky high, but are not cheap eitehr. I do not care for any gun without an active safety, especially for a house gun.
  
  The pistol you mention is the economy version and sells for a lot less than the early ones did. I think they are a lot of gun for the money, if you like the type.
  
  I assume this pistol has only 10-round magazines. If it would happen to have 15-round magazines, it would be a better buy.

  I have a Smith and Wesson 40V, no E, and I love it. It does have some drawbacks like it sometimes likes to jam with a lower grain round. I use a 180 grain and it fires fine. I think the accuracy is good. I can group 2-1/2 at 35yrds, dont know if thats good, but good enough for me. All around it is good and since I have no kids or morons in my house, the no safty doesnt bother me either.As for durability, I have about 4500 rounds though it in it still shoots straight. The only thing ever to go wrong with it was the slide stop lever assy. Four dollars later it was shootin again. Hope this helped you.

  Well being a poor college student, I was looking at it and comparing to see what the diferences between it and the Glock. Personally I agree, I like the way it feels in my hand a little more. It does come with a 10 rnd. but here's the thingfor a carry gun, I don't think I need a 15 rnd. One well placed shot with the right ammo should do the job. I know that the Glock has its advantages and all, that's not up for debate, but this looks like something more up my alley. Just want to know some opinions on both sides of it.

  I have fired a couple different examples fo the SW40VE. As I recall, one was excellent and the other was all over the place accuracy wise. Any chance you can fire it before you purchase it???

  The other guys basically covered the guns goods and bads, but on your question about resale value, a friend of mine had a stainless SW40VE and shot it about 100 times, oiled it and put it away. When he ran low on cash he was able to sell it for what he paid, $320. He always had nothing but good to say about it, and hes kicking himself for letting go of it. Hope that helps.

  does $300 sound reasonable from a local shop? Im thinking local so I don't pay S/H, Im thinking it sounds like Im gonna get a new gun this week :-) Anyone want to try to talk me out of it, think Im making a big mistake and wasting money? Im looking fro a more powerfull carry gun than my CZ-70 .32

  The S&W .40ve is a very reliable gun. $300.00 is not bad the VE does not have adjustable sites. As does the .40V but it has good sights. They remind me of Novac sights. My gun shoots very well. My wife bought it for me when I was boycotting them. She didnt know of the political things that were going on. She got it for a little over $300.00. And I had not had much experience with the Sigma series pistols at that time. I had a cheap holster I was carring the pistol when we went to some hunting property we own when the pistol fell out of the cheap rig, I dont know how it came out? but it did and was chambered with a round when it fell about 15ft and bounced off of a dirt road. The gun did not fire nor did it even put a scratch on the gun its had my respect ever since. Needless to say I dont use the belly band holster any more. Or not that one brand. My Gun is black polymer with a stainless slide. Hope this helps

  I fired Seductiveones pistol(above reply) and that's what made me want a .40. It fired very clean and was pretty acurrate, not the best but definetly not the worst. Seductiveone is my brother so I am only being a bro. when i say that my P9 is a lot better than his crap and wesson! just kidding, love you dude! By the way he is in Mnnesota I am in Florida
