What a shame it would be to make such modifications to such a meaningful heirloom. Wow. I'm speechless.

If such a task is to be undertaken, I would have him take it to a competent gunsmith for recommendations. I'm sure the gun has seen some wear and may have it's own unique characteristics developed by wear over time that will need to be corrected in order to function flawlessly as a "shooter". Wilson Combat makes good aftermarket upgrade parts. You can find plenty at WWW.DELTAFORCE.COM

He just wants it as a shooter, says it is the only gun he will ever own. I hate to see it *&^$^@ with also.

Dude, are you on crack.... Don't touch it, there are plenty of starving gunsmiths and hoploholics here that would give their left testicle for that gun... LOL!!!

What you have is a collectors piece, anything you do to modify it will just make it lose value.

It is my recommendation that you have it appraised, and sell it, then spend the money on a factory tweaked gun, that way you'll be happy, and another collectors piece will be given the care it diserves.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

Please, please, please...if this is a complete & original military M1911 or M1911A1, don't mess with it. It is far more valuable as a piece of history than as a "souped-up" carry gun.

Why not sell it to somebody who will appreciate it for what it is....then buy a Springfield or Kimber customized "carry gun".

If you really want a "do-it-yourself" project, buy one of the arsenal refurbished Argentine Modelo 1927s and use that as a basis for your custom gun. You can buy them for around $300.

    Good Luck.

My lady just bought me a 1911A1 Property of the US , Colt US ARMY, with all the right numbers and marks, It happens to be one that did not make the recall to the Armories, for rebuilding and parkerizing,

NO WAY WILL I MAKE ANY MODIFICATIONS,

Tell your friend if he wants to shoot it, learn the guns attitude,
After a few rounds thru mine, I can cut the 10 ring at 25 yrds with no problem.
