WHEN I WAS IN THE SERVICE WE HAD SEVERAL REM. M-11 SHOTGUNS, ALL HAD COMMERCIAL BLUE FINISH. THAT DOES'T MEAN THAT SOME DEPOT COULDN'T HAVE REFINISHED ONE. IS YOURS U.S. MARKED?

The NAVY bought a bunch of the mod.11's with 28" modified barrels for gunnery training.... Some were U.S. marked, some were blued and even had the engraved hunting scene on the receiver. The mod. 11 trench guns and riot guns with the 20" barrels, were ordered parkerized, the long barreled gunnery trainers may have gone back to the arsenal for refinishing, If so they were most likely parkerized there, as were the Ithicas and Winchesters... On the other hand It may just be an aftermarket parkerizing job...I have done several for customers that wanted a good corrosion resistant finish for deerhunting in the carolina's swamps. A 20" cyl. bore gun handles a rifled slug quite well. Hope this helps..

Hello, look for a government mark Flaming Bomb U.S Ordinance. The Remington Model 11 was pressed into service in WW11 as the Browning factory in Belgium was occupied by the Nazi's. These shotguns were used in traning Anti Aircraft Gunners.

The ordnance flaming bomb was the only U.S. identification marking on Army shotguns. As I recall it was on the lower front of the receiver side.
The ones I've seen all had commercial finish. Army riot guns had to be pumps to enable use of a bayonet. These were Special Service guns for recreational purposes. Other Special Service guns were Savage 720, Winchester model 12 and Remington 31, all in 12 gauge.
