Follow-on, in case it matters: using the
    ammunition on an M1A.

    Thanks again...

If you dont reload, PMC is fairly inexpensive. And my Remington seems to shoot it pretty well. It depends where you look you can find it for around $5.00 a box. Or you can readily buy it in bulk for a much better price. Try the sportsman guide.

    Good Luck.

I shoot an H&K 91 and a M1-A, both love the Portuguese NATO ball, comes in 200 round plastic battle packs. I buy it in case lots at the gun show, or from the dealers in Shotgun News. very clean and accurate.

Cpermd has it right. Best there is from 200-600 yards is M852, 168 grain BTHP's,...easily as good as Federal Gold Medal Match. For 1000 yard shooting out of the box use M118, 173 grain BT's...it stays supersonic to about 1250 yards. You can go to exotica for more sophisticated loads with heavier bullets but you'll pay mucho for them. M852 used to be available from the CMP for $207 plus shipping for a 460 round can. That is simply put the best price in the world for ammo with world class accuracy. Beach

I managed to pick up 4 cases a couple of months ago from a fellow in TN.
I have a lead on another 10 cases and may have them by the middle of June.
It takes contacting lots of folks on the net and at matches.

Try and make it to the National matches at Camp Perry in July. Check with the CMP warehouse every day. Last year M852 was available in very small quantities.....I'm thinking we are going to start seeing M118 start showing up in the next couple years as the supply of M852 dries up. You can expect to pay $207 per can there. I would think the M118 would be priced about the same give or take a buck. Now you do the math if you intend to buy it from someone who has already purchased it....It costs about $25 to send it somewhere so most people are already into the ammo for $232 per can. Much much better to go to Camp Perry and save the cost of shipping. Beach
