243, 22-250, 260 Rem, 270 Win, 30-06, 280 Rem, or anything else with that head size. Douglas or wilson barrels would run about $100. Wilson will even short chamber and thread it for the action.

How would you rather die, 10,000 foot pounds of muzzle energy in the BUTT or a sharp knife in the HEART?

Check www.midwayusa.com for cheap barrel prices. I am working on the same type of project right now. They have adams and bennett barrels between $85-$100. Most of the quotes I have received from gunsmiths have been between $40-$75 dollars to finish ream and attach the barrel.
I'm pretty sure the Spanish Mauser is a small ring Mauser. You will need to find that info when you purchase.

    Hope this helps,

Hi Lee, Try Brownell's. I made a 35 Rem on a Spanish Mau. They stock other cal's also. You should stay with the lower preasure rounds for this action,6.5 Swede,7x57,300 Sav, 35 Rem, to name a few. Good luck, Swanie

Sir, I would strongly urge you to obtain a copy of Jerry Kunhausen's book on Mauser rifles. If you read what he has to say about rebarreling the 91 thru 96 Mausers, I think you would reconsider your project. Basically they should not be rebarreled for any cartridge that generates more chamber pressure than the original chambering. The reason is that, especailly in the Spanish Mausers, the heat treating varied a great deal and many of them are soft. The best of that series is the Swedish 96's, according to him.

I absolutely agree with 25/06. The spanish mauser is not designed for the kind of pressure generated by a lot of those cartridges mentioned above. Stick to 257 roberts, 7x57, 300 savage, and 35 rem with standard factory loads. Both Midway and Brownells point this out in their catalogs. While you might get by 99% of the time, do you really want to have that thing 4 inches from your face the other 1%?
