Question on bidding
In the last several months I have wanted to bid on several
guns. I go to ask the seller some questions but never receive a response. Typical questions are: bore condition, refinished?, origanilty, import marks, etc. Am I just stupid or is there a cover-up? I further note that many sellers are using a back drop that sort of disguises the condition. Not suggesting fraud or anything else but I do wonder. I do check out the ratings. Any advise? Thanks in advance. Steve smhco@juno.com
Further, I am not registered on any other site but I do glance upon it
now and then. I see the some of the same arms being auctioned on the other site. Pls advise and post. Thank you.

If you dont get an answer dont bid. It does help if you ask questions early and dont wait until near the end of an auction, sometimes the seller is not available. I know as a buyer If there is no picture of the actual item, I stay away and if I ask a question and get no response I wont be sending money that way either. There could be something sinister about the silence..might not be..but why take a chance? 0 -
PreBan,
Thanks for confirming my thoughts. Just wondered if this was the norm
on auction sites.

I agree, I won't bid if the seller does not answer my questions. Could you imagine what his answer might be when you ask "Where is my gun?" If question is last minute, you can't expect much because people do have other things to do in life, but if it's in ample time, there is no excuse for not answering. As you already know, be careful. I have also run into many sellers who reply, but are evasive about answering my questions. Sometimes they just lie. I had one seller who sold me a rifle with a heavily sanded and refinished stock (advertised as "all original finish on stock") say "When you asked me if the stock had been refinished, I thought that you meant RECENTLY."
If you want to see REALLY evasive answers, try asking the following: "If the item is not as you described, will you refund the purchase price plus shipping both ways?"

Any seller who won't answer questions really isn't interested in making a sale. Some sellers may not be very knowledgeable, but I'd buy from someone who admits they don't know, rather than someone who just won't respond.
