Try the Remington 155gr. JHP in the 25rd box. The Immigration and Border Patrol guys use it and they are both extremely happy with its performance. You can spend as much as you want on ammo, but this ammo is reasonably priced and has been proven quite effective in manstopping. If you need some, drop me a line. I have several cases available.

I bought some 165gr Gold Dots for mine. I would stick with lighter grain bullets especially if your barrel is short.

I have done a lot of asking around over the year, and I'll tell you what I have been told.

The best personal defense cartridges are light and very fast, 135 g or smaller.
Supposedly they are so fast and light that they splatter or
immediatly flatten out. I have been informed that hollow points
are misleading in that the companies do not test against
clothing. The hollow point tends to fill with cloth and then will
not expand. I have even seen an example of a .45 that was full
of cloth and retained its' original shape with very little
expansion. It went entirely thru the test target.

I really like the winchester SXTs. They really seem to be good ammo.
"personal preference but no tested experience" I just found them to function very well.

The best I have heard of for personal protection would be
the RBCD Performance Plus Ammo. It is purported to expand to explosive
dimensions and give its' energy up immediately. It does not have a hollow point. Costs a lot though.
Around 40.00 for a box of 20. Gun shows sell it or I could get you an
address or phone number to find it.

The Federal premium personal defense 135 grain 40 s&w is supposed
to be very effective. I have no studies to back that up. Just an ammo sellers word at a gun show., and impressive numbers on the box.

The Cor-Bon Beeline prefragmented self defense ammunition, is
well spoken of by lots of people. It does not have a hollow point.

Glaser gets good reports from a diversity of people also.

See my last question on this topic "Glaser",asked by ericthered.

    Hope that helps.

Let me know if you happen to test some of these and have some
interesting reports. I am personally concerned about a bullet
going all the way thru an attacker and hitting an innocent.

The best would be whatever your gun feeds most reliably, and accurately, and you like the feel of.

The heavier the bullet the more it will penetrate, lighter high velocity bullets loose their energy faster upon impact.

Also rule of thumb is that lighter bullets will generally have less felt recoil.

I chose 165gr JHP because thats what my gun seems to like the best, and I liked the feel of.

Don't worry about one stop shots, function is the most important thing.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

Also thought I might mention, that whats best for one person may not be best for you. There is no end all be all answer to the question you asked. The best thing to do is buy a box of everything and try it out.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
