I know everything of course..wellll, except this:
I just picked up an SKS recently and know squat about military weapons. I'd like to know what I have and an idea of value. For what it's worth, I paid $100.00 for it.
It's the same as the one on auction #3922355 as far as I can tell. Complete with bayonnet, cleaning rod, cleaning kit in the stock, nothing missing, all parts match.
It has the standard clip type mag, plus a thirty round one that came with it.
Made by Norinco in China
Caliber 7.62-39
Ser no. 20002963 if it matters
Stock is a bit scratched and nicked, I'll call it 80%
Bluing looks good, but a bit of pitting around the sight hood and barrell end. Maybe 70% for that.
It shoots like a dream, works perfectly.
The gentleman on the auction is asking for a starting bid of $970.00, not getting any takers so far, so I doubt it's in that range, but worth more that a hundred I hope??0 -
Heck I've seen them just like you described sell for in the $150-$200 range on a normal day, just for the rifle. $100 is a steal for that rifle. You will definately be able to get your money out of it if you ever decide you have to part with it. But if its a shooter I wouldn't. If I were you, I'd ditch the 30rd magazine. Trade it for some ammo or something.
I just wish I had a dollar for every gun I wanted, then I'd be a rich man.0 -
I'm confused...I checked out that auction, and the opening bid on that SKS was $1.00 with no reserve, and is currently at $155.00. I agree with leeblackman.....$150-$200 is normal range for an SKS in that condition. I don't know who would be crazy enough to think they could sell the thing for nearly a thousand bucks. $100 for that rifle is a good deal. 0 -
Sorry 'bout dat. Wrong auction number. 3933198 is the one I meant to send, but I'm happy anyway, seems I did ok. Thanks! 0 -
I paid about the same for mine but that was 5, 6 years ago. Great deal!

Ok, now it makes a little more sense. Auction #3933198 is the paratrooper SKS that takes detachable AK-47 mags instead of having the fixed 10-round box mag on the normal SKS, and it has shorter barrel. $970 for the opening bid still seems a bit steep. I remember one that auctioned for around $350 a month or two ago. 0 -
I think you will easily get $100.00 worth of fun just plinking with that gun. Ammo is cheap and you can buy it in bulk. As for the rifle most of them are real shooters. A good place to buy bulk ammo cheap is The Sportsman Guide at 1-800-888-3006
Good Luck.

Austin, dunno about barrel length, nothing to compare to, but it does have the detachable mag, so guess that's it. Anyway, I gots me moneys worth just banging in the back yard this afternoon.
Rugster, thanks for the phone number, I gonna need it!0 -
I hope by "banging in the back yard" you mean shooting the SKS...otherwise, I hope you have a big privacy fence or live way out in the boonies. Wouldn't want the neighbors takin' pics and postin' em on the internet. lol 0 -
Now Austin.... I been known ta do dat too, but many years ago. I couldn't do that kinda bangin now in a penthouse suite with a brace o' vestal virgins..Whut the heck is "vestal?" wonder where I got that.. 0 -
"Vestal virgins" were those who ancient priests kept in the Chambers to be sacrificed to whatever God of the Day/Month/Season was in vogue. It is widely accepted by anthropologists that most of those sacrificed were chosen before they began to show that they were no longer "virgins" i.e.- Pregnant! 0
