T/C Contender Old Frame /Newer Barrel Question
I have an older Contender frame(made in 1970) that I bought a newer style barrel for. It is a 45LC/410 ga. 10 inch octagon w/ external choke. Problem is when on my frame it won't open. I am told it is because of the thicker barrel step below the lug on the newer style barrel. I am also told by some that if this step is filed off it will work. Anyone have any experience with this type situation?? Thanks.

The breech blocks are different for the two models. I have been doing just the opposite, putting old barrels on a newer frame.
Call Thompson at 603-332- 2394 and talk to them or email tca@tcarms.com.
The parts will run about $14 or so.
If they don't have any, being obsolete, post again asking for me and maybe we can do a trade.

Any of the Octagon barrels should fit your frame. When T/c modified the frames to the "easy open" style earlier barrels would not fit. I would send the gun to T/C and they will make your combo work. 0 -
Thanks Win37 and Piadea for your responses. I have contacted T/C and spoke to their technician about my problem. They are aware of it and they said the reason is because the extra steel step was added for strength needed for larger calibers. Their only suggestion was to get a newer frame or an older barrel without the thicker barrel base in the caliber I want. Of course they wouldn't say if filing off the step would make the barrel to dangerous to shoot in this caliber. I would like to know if someone reading this has done this to a barrel with success. Anyone?? 0
