Skeet loads?
I just bought a Remington 870 Wingmaster in 20 ga (2 3/4"). I plan to use it to shoot skeet with a friend. Nothing serious mind you, just for fun. What are good loads for this purpose?

A light dove load. A day of skeet usually consists of about 100 shots, or at least most of the matches I've been to, and thats what I always shoot for practice. So I like a light load on my shoulder. Usually a #8 shot. Really just whatevers the cheapest. Sometimes I use #9 sometimes #7shot, I'm not a pro by any means nor do I plan to be, so I don't really notice any difference between those.
I just wish I had a dollar for every gun I wanted, then I'd be a rich man.0 -
You'll probably break more targets going to #9 shot...reason: there are more pellets per volume than with #7's. I know a few shooters that like #12 shot. 0 -
lee,
I wont actually be in any matches, is mostly for fun in the backyard type of thing.

most trap and skeet shooters use 7 1/2, 8, or nine. most trap and skeet shoots and the clubs that host them only allow shot sizes it this range. #12 is a "cheater" load. if you nail the bird right off the house you will smoke it if you anywere close to being on target, but #12 wont reach out as far as 7 1/2. this realy shows on doubles. for simple backyerd or gun club play a light field load or trap/skeet load in 7 1/2 is the way to go. 0
