1911 A1
I have a Springfield .45 auto but the receiver is stamped Essex armory. This a relatively new weapon both the hammer and trigger are skeletized. Does this sound like a Springfield?? thanks doc doc

I have a Colt 1911 A1 that seems to check out for all the correct markings that are correct for the 1942 manufacture date indicated by the serial number. However, there is a "55" stamped on the upper front on the right side of the trigger guard. I cannot find reference to a mark in this location anywhere. Can anyone tell me what it means?

At one time, British markings would have detracted from the value. There has been recent interest, and all-original pieces are selling at a premium. A mint, correct 1911A1 would sell for well over $2,000.
Value drops rapidly with alterations and wear.

It's mint and I guess there weren't many colt lend/lease so this is great news. Thanks! Charlie
