Help! Oct or Round
Help!! Starting to build my custom Rolling Block But getting confused! I want to go with an octagon barrel, have chosen the brand but how do I interpit the measurments for an octogon??? The barrel That come off was round and measured a little over 1+1/4 inch at the action. Would a 1+1/4 octagon be the same?? Or would this be to big??
Too many corners confuse me???
Would rather ask a stupid question than to learn the hard way!!
Thanks

I'm in the process of just finishing one up; a .40-65 on a No.1 action. I got the barrel from Brownells, a Ballard Rifle and Ctg. brand. The first one + inches at the breech end are round, and then it becomes octagon. The catalog shows the specs so that you can order one that fits or comes close, and the gunsmith that chambers it for you can cut the round part down a little on his lathe if necessary. 0 -
Measurements for octagon or hexagonal stock are given across the flats. That is, a 1 1/4 octagon barrel will equal a 1 1/4 round when the flats are machined off. 0
