What cleaning equipment to use for SS barrels?
I recently purchased my first rifle in SS. I was hoping if some of you could tell me if different cleaning solvents or rods are needed? If so what are some of the better ones? Also any of you know any proven methods for breaking in a SS barrel, that would be helpful to. Thanks again guys

Get you some hoppes benchrest copper solvent. A wire (not nylon) bore brush. A cleaning rod. A jag (not the slotted kind, but the cylindrical kind). And get alot of the appropiate sized for you caliber patches. Some gun oil.
Dip a patch in the solvent, the using the jag push it down you barrel. Let is sit for about 5 minutes and do it again. Then brush out your barrel really good, and run a dry patch down your barrel. Then continue to run wet patches down your barrel until they come out without any blue streaks on them. Then run a couple of dry patches down you barrel to get the rest of the solvent out. If your going to store you rifle its best to run a patch with some gun oil on it down your barrel to keep it from rusting.

Just though I might add this, a list of stuff you should get in addition to the previous stuff I mentioned for a cleaning kit.
A tackle box is great for keeping everything in.
A tooth brush.
Lots of Q-Tips.
A gun cleaning solvent in a spray bottle. (I prefer MPro-7)
A .45cal brush for cleaning your chamber with.
A pistol cleaning rod, use a torch to heat it then bend it where approprite, use it for cleaning you chamber with.

Yea, I've been using it for about the last year, maybe not even that long. I tell you I will really miss the smell of the hoppe #9 nitro solvent. To bad I had to retire it.

Oh yea, another thing thats good to have in your gun cleaning kit, is some Armour-All. For plastic on guns. Works really well to keep black plastic from fading to grey.

I have found Kroil to work far better than Hoppes Benchrest.Follow the kroil with JB's Bore paste.After the JB's one patch of Kroil.Then dry patch.

I have used Kroil & JB paste and they both work good. A new solvent that I started using a few months back has proven to be excellent is Butch's Bore Shine, works better Shooter Choice. I will be using this from now on. 0 -
I have 1 rifle with a stainless barrel and,have always used the same methods and equipment as with my other barrels.I think if you use any of the well known bore cleaners,you won,t have any problems.As far as Break In,everyone seems to have a different opinion.Stainless is supposed to be more wear resistant so maybe they take a little longer to break in.(only guessing) 0 -
I too use Hoppes on my stainless S & W 686 .357 Revolver. I love the smell of it.
Anyway, is there any harm in using it on my blue S & W 908 9mm auto?
By the way, I found that using a small toothbrush-sized stainless brush works great for getting into crevices.

Heres one for all who posted about getting into tight places and crevices, get yourself some dentists picks. They are absolutely great for cleaning all the unreachable areas. also good for picking out the little bits if copper and fouling around the lockup and chamber area of 22's.

On that note, a good set of picks can be picked up from Wal*Mart in their hardware department. I picked up a set of 5 with different angled heads for like $6.00. They look like screwdrivers, but with pointy sharp heads.
