value of Savage 170

I'm a sucker for old shooters and I found an old 170 in the corner of a local shop, everything seemed to be tight and the rifle felt good when I brought it to my shoulder. This gun didn't appear to have been abused just well used. I'd shoot it before I parted with any cash, he had it priced at $195.00, is this a good price?

  There is one in the latest Gun List,J&G Sales has it, they want $268.50 for it .They are a very scarce item and the price you'll pay is much higer then what the Blue Book says.This gun was made in only two calibers 30/30 Rifle & Carbine, and in .35 Rem. rifle only (rare).I own all three and like them very much.In the Book of the Rifle by Jim Carmichel (pg.66)He says he fired two groups running underan inch.This is better then a lot of much higher priced bolt actions.Some say they are prone to breakage but I have never had a problem.Hope this helps.
