Whats the story on these little guns good,bad,descent?Worth $100.00?Or would I be better off buying a good knife..lol Thanks,

If you can't purchase a similiarly weighted piece of scrap metal to throw at an assailant for under $100, it might be worth $100.
If you want something inexpensive (not CHEAP) for carry/protection, look at either the Kel-Tec P-32 or P-11, or a Makarov.

I was thinking of a Makarov I can get a bulgarian 9x18 for 125.00 but was a little skeptical of buying such an old used gun.Are they tough enough to put up with years of use?

Any firearm is Better than none, plus it adds to another U.S. firearm owner. We need all we can get as for the firearm you mentioned, I have never heard any complaint about them except for accuracy. If I had a Dollar for every time someone came to me and said they could not hit a barn with them I could go buy that red label over and under to complete my collection of them. But I cant say Ive heard of failure to fire or malfunctions, not to say they arent problems. I just havent heard them and I usually do. I would say try the makarov they are reliable, and ammo is cheap to buy in bulk. I Hope this helps.

Like Darkstar was saying, you should be able to find a Kel-Tec P-11 in the $200-$250 price range. A little extra money is worth it to buy a handgun that actually goes "BANG" when you pull the trigger. And, finding 9x19 ammo isn't a problem since it seems just about everyone and their dog manufactures it, sells it, or reloads it.
I'd definitely stay away from anything Davis (or Jennings for that matter). You're pretty much looking at the Yugo of the gun world there. I don't have any experience with Makarovs, and doubt I ever will. If I'm gonna buy something in the 9mm category, I'll stick to the 9x19.

Go with the one that makes you happy. I have shot both. The Davis seems to jam but what do you expect for the price. A little ramp polishing will fix that. They are fairly accurate out to 25 yards.
We've had officers qualify with them for off duty use at that distance on 48 round course. The Makarov is a fine gun for the money
and I have one of those in my pocket when I'm not pounding a desk. The PA-63 Hungarian FEG0 -

There's the CZ50/70 for under $100. It may only be a .32, but with Glaser's or Magsafe's, it makes for effective and reliable protection.

E. Williams, I've your other posts and you seem to not like the 9mm(9x19). Well, I would rather have the 9x19(luger or para)over the 9x18 (makarov) and the 9x17(.380). Cheapest and most potent of the three. I also recommend the Kel-Tec P11. Small (even smaller than some of the .380's), light and very easy to conceal. It's also very reliable. And it's a gazzillion times better than the Davis. Save up and get what you really want. Just a friendly suggestion. GD 0 -
I think I've seen more thugs and drug dealers carrying Davis and Lorcin firearms more than anything else. Its widely mass produced for just the market that rarely uses them.
My experience with a davis was bang, clear jam, bang, clear jam, bang, oops there goes the frame cracked....
For the price you can get a surplus military pistol, and it will serve you a heck of alot better.
And $100 is to much for a Davis 380. I can get them new all day, on the bad side of town for $20-$50 a pop....

Won't touch anything .380, never had any that worked. Finally got rid of everything and have been much happier ever since. I think the cartridge is too fat and too short. Please don't tell me that yours is the greatest thing since ??? If I were to shoot, it would jam. 0 -

...Or the Taurus PT-58? It is a great gun. Also, believe it or not, I've had really good luck with the FIE Super Titan.
Still, if I were buying one gun in the 9mm class for carry purposes, it would be the Kel-Tec P11.
