Value of 1911 a1????
I inherited what appears to be a nearly untouched and mint Remington Rand 1911a1 w/ serial number #1527611. There are no wear marks on this gun. The owner cleaned the cosmoline off himself, shot about 50 rounds through it then stored it. It has a nice leather holster marked 1942, but I'm told it was acquired separately. What do I have here? Help please.

Why this never happens to me, I'll never understand.....
Blue book says serial number range 1471431-1609528 made sometime
between 1943 and 1945. Probably 1944. Price in BB is $795, however,
a collector type will give more.
hope this helps some....

I have a parkerized Remington Rand, Naval Officers 1911A1 (1943 manufacture) and have turned down several offers around 1000.00. I'm just not interested in selling it.
I suggest you hold on to yours. BTW, congratulations on your new "investment",lol.

The $1,000 estimate sounds right if it is, in fact, the original finish. Look at the inspectors initials on the left side and the ordinance seal on the right side with a strong magnifier; you should see "burnishing". Since these were struck AFTER parkerizing, there will be areas within these marks where bright steel shows through; this is called burnishing. If all you see within these markings is parkerizing, then the gun was refinished and value drops to the $500-700 range.

All,
Thanks for your expert advice. I think I may have a rework on my hands. I want a very small RIA neatly stamped on the left side by the trigger.
