Firearms Shipping Question

It sounds like you have a good understanding of the Federal law concerning interstate transfers.

The logistics may make it more difficult if you plan to ship from individual to FFL. You must declare the contents to the shipper; you may need to produce a copy of the FFL. If you use USPS, there is a special form you must complete. If you use UPS or FEDEX, you must tell them it is a "firearm for repair"; FEDEX also requires guns to be "disabled".

It may be easier for both of you to pay the FFLs to do the swap.

I know things are rough on us gun loving people in california. We just need to continue to fight, the anti gunners. Fortunately I live in VA. and gun rights are good here. AS FOR YOUR Question as long as the gun you will be recieving is legal in CA. you can ship to each others ffl holders. Hope this helps.

    Good Luck.

rugster, We are shipping Reminton's models 7400 and 700 both of which are legal in both states.

Neal, I know you are close to me from old posts we have had. I understand what you are saying. The gentleman in Oklahoma is has shipped all over the US so his part is easy. I tend to agree with you and paying a FFL to ship and receive. Are you a FFL holder and if so are you interested in helping me out. The last time I did this it cost me $40 just to transfer and then DROS and shipping on top of that. So I have to add 50 to 70 bucks to the GB price.

Thank you both for your response.

Sorry Jim, I only have a C&R. The cheapest FFL in my area charges $30 for a long gun; with the shipping added, it makes me tend to avoid buying and trading unless it's something I REALLY want.

I called UPS and told them I needed to ship a rifle to an FFL holder in another state (from California). They told me as long as the package didn't distinguish the contents as a firearm it was fine. I took it to a customer counter and shipped it standard ground. Done Deal. You can always look in the phone book and call the BATF to be sure.

ddhotbot, I just wanted to be sure who you contacted the BATF or UPS.

Thanks for the call BoyWonder and thanks again to all, it sounds pretty safe as long as both private parties send to FFL's. I will let you all know how it goes.
