Norinco SKS questions
I have been looking for a SKS for a few weeks and wandered into a gunshop today. They had a unfired Chinese SKS. It has a spike bayonet, and all the numbers match. I took it apart and found that the grease that was used to store the weapon had coagulated, so I cleaned it all out and relubed it. When I went to reassemble it, I was not sure which end of the captured recoil spring and guide rod goes in towards the front (muzzle) of the rifle. It appears to be a two piece guide rod with a skinny end and a fatter end. Does the skinny end go towards the front? Also, are there any spare parts that I should pick up and keep on hand? I am going to order some stripper clips, a manual and a sling from Tapco and they list spare parts for the rifle. Is there any part on an SKS that is prone to breakage? Does anyone have the 1" rubber recoil pad on their rifle? The SKS is a little short, so I thought the 1" extended pad would make it a little more comfortable to shoulder. Thanks for your help.

Hey guy's I have a couple of quick questions in regards to my Norinco SKS. The rear sight/Leaf spring came out a while back and unfortunately were lost. I have a few extra bucks laying around so I was going to order a new one but I'm not sure If I need anything more than the leaf spring and the rear sight? When looking down at the area where the sight should be I can clearly see the Gas Piston Extension Spring, so I'm curious how the leaf spring fits down below the rear sight to keep pressure on the sight to keep it in place? Aside from the Leaf Spring/Rear Sight do I need anything else to keep it in place? Last but not least, I haven't seen any of them up for sale lately can anyone recommend a good place to purchase them aside from the local gun show? I saw the parts on Aimsurplus.com but they wanted 9 or 10 bucks just to ship the darn parts and when they only cost $10 combined and weigh virtually nothing it seems kinda ridiculous to pay 10 bucks to ship them. Anyways any advice would be greatly appreciated. 0 -
The spring and rod go in with the big end to the rear of the receiver.

Put the spring on the rod & put the small end in first. Compress the spring and push the rod flush with the receiver while rotating the retaining lever to capture it. Next, replace the handguard and rotate the retaining lever to lock in the handguard. 0 -
Other than the stripper clips I'd probably suggest a site adjustment tool. 0 -
mine is dead stock exept for the scope and scope mount i just installed. if you want to stick with iron sights williams and lyman make a reciever peep sight that is very sweet.they also have high vis front sight inserts(tapco)that look interesting. the only accsesory i realy want but dont have is th 75 rd drum mag(135.00)you might also consider the composite draganov or hunting style drop in stocks.hope you have a blast and come home without any ammo.

Mobuck said it all the other guys covered all extra parts I can think of, except for the gas port cleaning tool. It cost about two bucks. as for the 1 inch recoil pad I have a fiberforce stock on mine and that helped extend the length of the gun, but I am long armed and the recoil pad made mine feel right.
Good Luck.

I haven't brought myself to spend the $10 bucks yet, but the broken shell extractor tool is something every SKS owner should have, so Iv'e herd. 0
