m 1 grand info needed
I recently purchased an m1 garand rifle with a reciever inscribed Natl Ordnance Co, S El Monte Ca . I have a few questions about it :
1) What company made this receiver?
2) Is this a forged or cast reciever?
3) Who assembled this rifle? Is it Federal Ordnance Co in S El Monte Ca ?
4) How can I contact the maker of this reciever and the assembler of the surplus rifle parts ?
Please respond by Email to gfgn @ bellsouth.net

I know you wanted a private response, but that does nothing to further the discussion on the forum. Here's what I know--incomplete--but perhaps of some help.
1. The receiver was probably made by Federal Ordnance Co.
2. If Fed Ord did make the receiver it is cast. I have one in my
collection made by Fed Ord, it is cast, and has given no trouble.
I bought it to "save" my collector Garands and have fired it
extensively over the years. There was a recall, but as mine worked
o.k. I did not send it back.
3. National Ordnance was a separate entity, and if their name is on
the rifle they assembled it.
4. You can not contact anyone. Both companies have been out of
business for years, Nat'l Ord before Fed Ord.
I'm sure none of this is what you wanted to hear, but now at least you know. In general the firearms produced by both companies were of lesser quality, although there were exceptions.0
