Have you noticed on money orders lately?
Recieved a money order for a auction here on Gunbroker. This is written on the back. Persons recieving this money order should accept it only from those known to them and against whom they have effective recourse. How would you treat this. As a money order and ship? As a personal check and hold untill it clears? The buyer wants really fast shipment but these words worry me.

Man I have been doing auctions (non-gun) for a year and never
saw that before.
I'd contact the issuer, bank, store or whatever, and see
what the deal is.
Been ripped off before, didn't like it.

Many money orders have this type message on them. I've not had one go bad yet, but there's always the first time. If you're worried run it by the bank and get their opinion. 0 -
There should be a phone number on the back to contact the issuer. Call them to make sure it is good. I have done this before on large amounts. This is to make sure someone didn't run it off their printer. 0 -
Yhey're trying to slip out of liability if there' a problem between parties. Recently I had a seller who claimed he hadn't received the M.O. but he had and it was a hassle to get the goods. It cost extra to duplicate the M.O.,file the claim and get copies of the signatures plus at least a month of lost time. It's probably best to send a M.O. by registered mail return receipt requested. 0 -
I have recieved a bogus Money order printed on banknote paper. A small
amount of $300. Could not find the person, as address was a apartment, and no one knows anything. Now when I sell, I insist on a
work or residental address & cross-referance it with the county tax tax roles & verify the phone number. Have not had a problem since.

Insist on a USPS Money Order. Not many people will take a chance on faking a Post Office MO. Postal Inspectors can be the nastiest LEO's you ever saw. 0 -
the warning is ridiculous. who gets money orders from people who aren't strangers? that's the whole point to a money order. it's a check from a stranger. i hadn't thought about it before but i guess with modern computer equipment a money order could be scanned and reprinted and the amount changed to a larger sum. i can't imagine cross-checking tax roles or whatever every time i get a money order though. just take a check and hold until cleared.

I sell quite a bit on the #1 AuctionArms site and will not accept anything but a USPS money order. Any bank M.O. can bee stopped and then you are just out if the item has been sent. You cannot stop a USPS M.O. 0 -
Isn`t it strange how this site blocks out the name of any other gun auction site? I guess they can`t stand to be number 2 or 3. 0 -
I'm a Postmaster and if you buy your MO's at the Post Office, you won't have a problem with payment. As a previous comment said, no one wants to mess with our internal law enforcement. It helps our business and gets you your money safely.
