I am trying to find out the value of a Remington 12 Gauge Sportman 58.

Any Ideas on how to go about it or on the possible value itself?

My sportsman 58 has a real nice marbled hardwood stock, kind of tiger striped almost. The reciever has beautiful engraving on both sides and is gold inlaid. The barrel is vent ribbed. Im amazed they wouldn't have put serial numbers or something equivalent to distinguish the different models. Thanks for your help Cap.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

Does anyone know anything about the Remington Sportsman 58, How to grade the gun? I cant even get any info back from Remington. I think they must have retired all the intelligent people they had working for them...

I was hoping someone would respond to this post, too. I was given a 58 Sportsman as my very first firearm and it has seen some good field use since then. I'm sorry I can't help you with your dilemma. Mine is definitely not even close to the same type you have. Mine has some nice engraving on the side with some dogs and pheasants, but is not gold inlaid. The wood is probably the cheapest grade they were using at the time, but it's still decent. It's a 12-guage with non-vent-rib barrel and single bead sight. I haven't pulled it out in awhile, but it's probably a full choke 28" barrel. Good luck with your search and hopefully someone will be able to grade both of ours. I wouldn't expect mine to be over about $150 value, but it means more to me than any other piece I have. If you find someone to tell you about yours, please let me know so I can do the same.

DaRoosta your gun would be a standard feild grade 150.00 to 300.00
4godand country I would need to see some pic's. the amount of engraving, who did the engraving? is the engraving signed? is it factory engraving? is it gold inlay or plated? I have a few of these guns and I'm an engraver also, so If I can help you out in anyway just ask email is pyro@ecenet.com

My mod 58's engraving is factory. Its gold inlaid not plated and the wood is beautiful dark marbled walnut.

your gun has a serial# call remington and give it to them they will tell you when it was made & what grade it is sounds to me like an F grade or special order, that is all I can tell you without seeing the gun Mark

mhanson -- Thank you very much for your reply. I'm going to guess mine is towards the lower end of that scale since it's probably around 70-75%. Pretty much what I figured, but it's very nice to have a knowledgable second opinion.

high grade guns are usually lettered and very trackable. one more question... how do you know if its factory engraved if remington knows nothing about it?? Mark
