As for the sig P225 I am not familiar with it, the P228 has just been recently discontinued to the public. And is being produced for military and law enforcement. And that is a real shame, but I have seen a few P228s at Gun Broker but there going fast. As for the P229 I dont think you will be a bit sorry you purchased it. It should give you a life time of enjoyment, and I think when you get to admire your new purchase in your hands you will realize it was worth the wait!

    Good Luck !

    The P225 is a single-stack 9mm pistol.

The 225 is discontinued, however there are still some to be had if you know where to look. As for the 228, it has been officially discontinued for public consumption by Sig. Their reasoning is somewhat unknown for doing this, but they most likely don't see a reason to make the 228 and the 229 for public sale. Both are basically the same gun with the 229 having a blackened stainless slide and a slightly different slide serration design. Their grips and overall size are identical. Apparently Sig is still producing the 228 for law enforcement. Some have been appearing on the market brand new to the public as well however. I have been offered at least 3 in the last 2 months. If there is a particular model that you are looking for, let me know I may be able to help. LRARMSX@MCHSI.COM

The 225 and 228 at one time were production pistols and sold to civilians. The 225 was the first large production 9mm other than the 210. The 228 was developed sometime in the late 1980's as a modernized version od the 225 with double stack mags. The 228 is a fine weapon. It has a lot in common with the 220. Both have similar slide designs and breech block configurations. The 228, 225 now are still made but only to L.E and military. The New Jersey State P.D just recently purchased the 228 for their sidearm. The U.S designation for the 228, the M-11, is in use with almost all forms of military in the U.S
The reason why the 228 was dropped from civilian sales was due in part to the 229. The 229 and 228 are the dimensionally the same except for weight(229 is lightly heavier) and the obvious differences in slide configuration. The 229 is designed to handle calibers 9mm, 40s&w, and .357sig. The 228 being lighter can't handle the heavier loads as well as the 229 can. The 229 is merely a more refined 228. Both are extremely accurate and reilable firearms.
The 228 can still be bought by civilians but only as a used gun. The 225 is basically the same way. The 225 now is used more in Europe as a L.E pistol. The 225 is also a fine weapon.
The 225 is made in Germany and the 228 is made here in the U.S. I handle Sig firearms on a daily basis and can tell you that these are pound for pound the best all around pistols on the market.

I like my Sig 229, but I still LOVE my Glock 22.

    Happy Shooting!

My gun is prettier than yours, and it's a Glock!

225 is the only SIG that I have always held on to. It just fits.
