Aguila MiniShells? Usefull or not?
I was going thru my stock of ammo looking at what I was low on, and relized that I probably need to buy some shotshells. So I start thinking about all the shotshells, and what particular brands and types I might want. Then I remebered these little things. Great for threegun matches, but what about otherstuff. Anyone use the buckshot for deer hunting or defense? The slugs for hunting? The birdshot for hunting? Or just for matches?

Here's what Aguila's web site says:
Minishells
This new type of 1-3/4" 12 ga shotshell (1-1/2" OAL loaded) was developed as part of the innovation drive carried out by Industrias Tecnos SA de CV from Cuernavaca, Mexico, manufacturer of "AGUILA" ammunition. The original idea was to create a new shotshell with law enforcement and military applications in mind. The new cartridge would generate a milder recoil (less shoulder punishment and faster reacquisition of the target after the first shot is fired), would provide more firepower (being able to load 12-14 rounds in a 20" bbl shotgun) and would be ergonomically friendlier (being able to grab a big lot of shells with one hand and comfortably place them in the pocket). Due to its smaller size one police officer/soldier would be able to carry about 40% more rounds than regular shotshells. All this, while providing the necessary power for Police/Military work.
Early in our development work it was clear that this new round would hardly cycle semi-automatics while also having difficulties in feeding some pump action shotguns flawlessly. This lead us to consider the development of a weapons system which would include a new shotgun (more about this later) especially designed for the MINISHELL. In the meantime, after some testing we realized that the WINCHESTERT 1300 series cycle MINISHELLS flawlessly (12 rds in an 18" bbl "Defender"); MOSSBERGST and REMINGTONST needed a minor modification in their elevators to produce similar results.0 -
hmmm...sound like I might get a case for my Winchester, but buy regular stuff for everything else.

Does anyone know exactly what kind of mod is required for Mossbergs and Remingtons to shoot the minishells? Is it something that has to be removed to shoot regular shells again?

i have a friend that has been reloading 1 1/2" shells for several years. i have a little trouble getting them to feed on my mdl 12s but they work great in my single shot guns. my mdl 12 hols 5 with the plug in. think it is great idea for home defense. carl 0 -
According to the website, the modification needed to get some guns to feed reliably with them has to do with the elevator. I was flipping throught some competition magazines, and some catalogs, and noticed that aftermarket elevators for most mainstream shotguns are available that are designed to allow the short shells to feed better, but still allowing original ones to, too.
