It has a lot to do with test guns. Stuff like barrel length and all that. I even believe rate of twist can effect your charge. Start with the lowest one, say a halfway load in your Nosler book the work your way up as you look for signs of over-pressure. I strive for 3000 fps if the gun I am shooting is capable. Seems to be an across the board accurate speed for bout everything I have. (lucky I guess) Believe it or not I am fairly new at this and learned by doing what you are doing now. Ever try BLC-2? There's one hell of an accurate load to be found using that stuff. H335 as well.

i was just wondering i have reloaded for many years but have never noticed a 5.5 grain difference in max charge for same bullet weight.
it is usually maybe 1 gr to a 1.5 gr difference.
i havent tried bl-c2 yet usually up in the slower burning powders.
i'll have to try it and see

Lyman says H380 35.0 start and 40.0max for 55gr bullet, but it also says that 40.0 is a compressed powder charge. Maybe thats got something to do with it.

Also acording to Lyman 38.0grs of H380 with a 55gr bullet is "legenday".

Hodgon Manual #26 gives a maximum charge of 37 grains of H380 for the 22-250 with the 55 grain bullet.
Will,If you find 3000 fps does the job for what you need why not look at the .222 or .233. You will have a more efficient cartridge and save 30% of your powder cost.

Everything I have says 41 gr. max. But I read somewhere that 38 gr. is the best load for the 22-250,I read that supposedly that is where the name H380 came from. I am going to load them up myself and try them.

I have a Remington 788 in 22-250, for it I use 40 gr. of H380 with a Hornady 55 gr spire point bullet for about 3683FPS

There are better powders out there than 380 for the 22-250!! Work up some loads using Win. 760 or old reliable duPont 3031!! Have never had a 22-250 that liked H-380 the best!!! Also try some Varget as it seems to do a good job with the .224's. GHD

First thing I did with my Nosler manual, after reading it for about 5 minutes, was I sold it to a guy for $5, this was after I paid $20 for it.
H-380 is not my chioce for the 55gr. But for 52gr it will work fairly well. Here is what I have found for this powder using the 52gr:
    Douglas Premium 26" barrel-
    40.5gr @3767 for 0.40 group. 41.5grs @ 3797 for 0.39" group.

    Salvage 112 FV -
    41.5grs @ 3785 for 0.50 group

These are loads that other guys have tested with this powder, just for your info.
But for 55gr load with good velocity you might want to try the H4895 and see how this will work, it is probably the best suitied for this bullet weight.
Just for your info, I have tested many different bullets in the 55gr with 2 Sako's and 3 Rem.'s and not a single 55gr bullet would shoot less than 3/4" group @ 100yrds. This is with trying to get the speed to be around 3650 fps. Tried several powders, primers and bullets so this is why I settled on the Speer 52 HP with Reloader 15. I am running this little pill at 3685 fps and it holds 1/4 to 1/2" groups at 100 and very effected on Coyotes
