Question for 25-06 users?

Im really tempted to get a 25-06 in Remington Sendero SF. Anyone that has any experience with this rifle or caliber, what do you think of it? How does it perform? Any opinions would be welcome. I would be using it for anything from varmits to deer on occasion. Thanks

    I have one with matching Burris base and rings with a
    Sightron 6-24X42ST scope. It is a tackdriver. At 100 yards,
    with Remington 100 gr. factory ammo, getting 7/8" groups.
    Am very happy with the rifle. With the scope the rifle
    weighs 10.4 pounds.

    I have a 25/06 that we have used to take several deer and coyotes. I have excellent results with Rem 100 gr factory ammo. Literally one hole at 100yds rom the bench. Also have used a rduced load for 12 year old deer hunter, but would advise that it was for short range only. The rifles in 25/06 that I have worked with showed excellent accuracy.

    Mine is a Mate version not the stainless,with a harris bipod and scope. I can't say enough good things about its accuracy. The weight however prevents me from hunting with it, as it really isn't much of a tree stand gun. However for bench/ground work it is a champ. Mine liked 117grn Hornady Customs in the factory loads, The handloads are a whole other story. Hope this helps...

    The 25-06 is the single most amazing cartridge available today!! Varmints with the light bullets, deer or larger game with the heavy bullets. Long range power and accuracy without the "kill on both ends" recoil of larger calibers. If I could only have one gun to shoot North America with it would be the 25-06!! The Sendero has proven itself to be a well made, accurate and affordable rifle. Do yourself a favor and get one tomorrow!! Maybe you ought to get two! The other ought to be a 22-250!! Then you could say you have the ultimate 2 calibers in your personal arsenal!! GHD

    My factory original Savage is the most accurate of all my rifles. With 115 gr Nosler it will ruin a whitetails day at some long distances. Longest so far was 400 yards but I confess a lot of luck on that one.

    Have three in my family--two "store-bought" and one custom. For deer to varmits, you can't beat a 25-06. Use 87-90 grain bullets on varmits and 117-120 grains on deer. Only drawback is loss of "matter" on groundhogs--probably why GHD is recommending 22-250's (for "big pig" contests).

    I have a remington 700 bdl that is almost as accurate as my 22-250.Of course I use custome loads in all my rifles.You can't go wrong with the 25-06.It has to be my favorite hunting rifle of all.Light loads for varmint and heavy for big game.Now that is special!

    I've had a Rem. 700 BDL in 25.06 with a 12X Leupold scope for 20 years and have done a lot of damage on deer, antelope, coyotes, etc. I use factory loads and experience amazing long range accuracy and it's the only thing I've used in the last 10 years for deer. It's been good from 20 yards to 350 - it's sighted in at 150 yards. I can tell you from experience that 4 out of 5 deer will run 50 - 150 yards with a well placed shot in the boiler room - it isn't a sledge hammer of a cartridge that will drop them in their tracks....but you'll sure have a nice blood trail!
    I like that Sendero and would buy one if I wasn't so happy with the BDL.

    If you are going to carry the gun while hunting, I would get something lighter. The Sendero is a great gun, triggers are easy to adjust, and great accuracy. I would opt for a sporter with at least a 24" barrel. One of the most accurate factory loads I have tried is the Federal Premium with the 100 gr. Nosler Ballsitic Tip. I generally handload and use the 100 gr. bullet for everything anymore. I have used heavier bullets for deer in the past, but have killed 11 antelope and probably 35 deer with the 100 gr. bullets. All but one antelope and two deer dropped in their tracks. I shoot them right behind the shoulder thru the lungs. Have had good luck with Sierra, Hornaday, Speer, and the Noslers. I use mostly 4831 and 4350 for handloads. I did shoot a couple 100 of the Nosler 85 gr. Ballistic Tips on prairie dogs and rabbits and they are dynamite, also very accurate.

    laxcoach, We use the ones that live under the chicken house for the big pig contests and use a 22 in the head or neck at close range so as not to lose any weight!! Ha! Ha! GHD
