Night Sights/gun cleaning
Three things. I just bought my first gun (a khar E9).
1. It seems Khar manufactures night sights for the p9 but not the E9, is their any after market night sights available?
2. I know you are supposed to clean your gun befor and after you shoot. Does that include the first time you shoot it?
3. What is a reliable but cheap 9mm round that will be safe to put through this weapon?

1. Check with trijicon or mepro for sights. I'm sure they have em. If they make them for Taurus and Ruger and a whole list of others, Kahr will be there too most likely.
2. It's a good idea to clean your gun each and every time you shoot. You don't have to give it a super solvent scrubbing, but a good once over with a lightly oiled cloth will be fine. Some say it gives it the most wear, but if you keep it light, it should be fine.
3. If you are that concerned, stick with factory ammo and keep away from reloads. Also, avoid steel cased loads like Wolf ammo. It's cheap to buy, but the steel is harder than most chambers and ramps prefer.
I always wanted to try one of those out. Let me know how you like it when you take it to the range.0 -
Keep away from reloads? That's all I've used for the last 40+ years in my guns. Nik you don't know what you're talking about.

Others may disagree, but I think night sights are a crutch for people who don't shoot much, and can actually hurt your shooting. If you go into a dark area (your kitchen at night) and look at an intruder over your glowing sights, you have now damaged your night vision without taking a single shot. If you fire your gun from your natural point of aim often enought to shoot by feel alone, you will maintain as much night vision as possible (until the first time you pull the trigger of course). 0 -
it doesn't make THAT much of a difference between reloads and factory ammo, but it supposedly voids the warranty on em. I shoot reloads through my GLock and Sig all the time.
Just be careful if shooting foreign reloads, like one that you neighbor loaded himself. If you load yourself and you know what you're doing, go for it.

Don't know about the night sights, and can't really comment on the cleaning, but I do know that the cheapest 9MM I have found is at Wal-Mart. $10 for a box of 100 rounds of Winchester 115 gr FMJ. Even when buying 1000 rounds it is still cheaper than any mail order place I've seen.

Well, the round is actually 10.98 at wallmart, but still comes out $1 cheaper with tax then you can find it online. Good catch, thanks for the advice, I got 200 rounds of it. Now all I need is my gun to come in! 0 -

If you have an Oshman's or Acadamy Sports near you, they usually sell 9mm Winchester ammo for $5.99 a box, and sometimes as low as $4.99 a box on sale. It is very good in quality, and in the medium range for velocity and pressure.
I would stick with Trijicon sights and stay away from Mepro.. We've had some bad luck with them.
Clean that baby within 24 hours every time you shoot, and you won't be sorry. I won't say it's necessary, but it's a good practice. Develope the disipline.

These are the standard 50 round pistol cartridge boxes. Winchester does now sell 100 round boxes, but I haven't seen them in the store yet.

BoyWonder night sights are green and will not damage night vision. The colors green and red are friendly night colors. Of course you're right that after the first round is fired it all goes out the window.
Night sights can help that first round count.
