Questions on Sig 229
Based upon so many good recommendations here, I ordered a Sig 229, .40 caliber, in stainless...3 weeks ago. I am still waiting for it so I thought I would ask a few questions.
I ordered it without the night sites which would have cost me another $85 dollars. If I change my mind later, and decide I want the sites, can I add them or am I stuck with the sites that come with the pistol?
Last question. I only specified stainless. I noticed in the catalogue that this pistol comes stainless either two tone or nitron coated (black). If I only specified stainless, I wonder which one I am likely to get?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you ordered stainless, you will probably get a two tone pistol with a stainless slide and black frame. You can always have night sights installed later, either by a local gunsmith or by mailing just the slide back to SIG. You picked a very fine pistol, Sigs are quality firearms.

For Chris8161,
Thanks. It was you all that talked me into it (and I am glad you did). Now the hard part is waiting, and waiting, and waiting. I go through a broker because of the deals he gets me. But sometimes it takes so long. The best price I have found in the K.C. area is $830 before taxes. $690 with taxes, shipping, etc., sure beats that.
The reason I asked about the night sites is two fold. The local range around here is always kind of on the dark side (my eyes aren't as good as they used to be) and I have read most self defense situations occur in limited lighting. Just and idea thats all...0 -
The sig light night sights are very nice. they look plain white during the day, and glow at a very manageable level at night. Not too bright, just right. I love them. wouldn't buy another one without them.
When in doubt...empty the magazine!!0 -

Thanks, something in the back of my mind said pay the money and get them. I looked up the price in their catalogue and it will cost a bit more to get them and then the cost of having them put on. I should have listened!!!0 -
The first question is who did you order it from? If you are a dealer did you order directly from Sigarms? If your not a dealer check with whom you ordered it from. It shouldn't matter what the finish is unless it is a special order.
In refrence to the stainless 229, The gun comes in stainless steel slide reguardless. All slides, or at least new slide say "stainless" on the slide they can come in a variety of finishes from nickle to k-kote. .
As far as two tone, Sig slides or at least most of the slides are nickle finish, others such as the 220 all stainless are not nickel finish.
Clear as mud right?0 -
I think you made a very wise choice when you choose the SIG,the P229 is one of my favorite. As for choosing the .40 auto you made another fine choice. The .40 caliber is one of the best personal defense rounds available, and very accurate may I add. As for the sights you can change them any time if you wish. As for the finish I would say unless your dealer has specified a two tone finish, you will probably recieve a black stainless. I dont think you will be dissapointed for it is very attractive and the nitron is very durable, with a little love and care your new gun should last you a lifetime. And i think when you first hold and admire that gun you will agree it was worth the wait. Good luck and safe shooting.
