Yes you can get a FFL with out a store front, you must comply with your local and state laws as well as federal. contact your local BATF branch for the paper work and they will answer all of your questions on how to proceed.

I may be mistaken, but I had heard that ATF was slowly and methodically doing away with all FFL license holders that did not have a storefront? Has anyone else heard this? They will not grant you a license to deal from one's home or residence. I guess the best way to answer this question is to call ATF. The only problem there is that if you ask ten different ATF agents the same question, you will get ten different answers!

Chris, The info I have received from BATF is exactly as stated by K. Stanonik. I believe the elimination of residence located ffl's is due to their problem with zoning. BATF requires that ffl businesses be in compliance with local laws. If your residence is in a zoned jurisdiction and the the zone is residential, that makes it in violation to conduct a business from the residence. I suppose a zoning waiver could be obtained but have had no experience with that.

Yes you can get an ffl , if you meet the requirements , no criminal record , ect....as far as the zoning stuff , your local govn. can help and the atf will not issue a ffl if you are in a residence type
area unless you get a zoning vairance waiver from the locals (first),
we had to do all this with our last location before we relocated out to the "counrty" , also be aware of all the atf rules and stipulations
that come with a ffl ( if it is "in" your residence - the entire
house is subject to searhes and stuff) type of things....If you do not
plan to have a regular "business" , dont bother with the ffl ......
You can ask questions to the atf , anything thats foogy , ask them to put it in writing and or give regs for reference and get a name of who told you what , will save you time and trouble later....we have had a ffl for twenty-three (23) years and grew up around one with NO
    problems....just follow the silly rules.....Good Luck !!!!!!!!!!!

Have had FFL out of my home about as long as azgunnut2. Have had numerous renewals with no problems. Have had two audits that were very through, but cordial and professional.

When the zoning issue was added, I went to my city engineer, described my situation, and asked if I would be considered a business. He would not decide, but gave me a copy of the ordinance.
With no signs, no special parking, and no high volume of employees and/or customers coming and going, I decided I did not violate the ordinance and so indicated on my renewal application.

Many will tell you an FFL is "not worth the hassle". These are the people who put off their income tax until April 14th and don't get their VISA payments in on time. If you want the FFL, the hassle is not an issue.

I am an FFL dealer out of my home and have done so for almost 4 years. I have a business license and there are no state or zoning laws in my area that would restrict me from selling firearms from my home. I pay sales tax and follow ALL reqirements set forth by the BATF and have not experienced any problems. The ATF agent came to my home when I first applied for my license and went over the laws and regulations that I must follow and casually checked to make sure that my home was relatively secure. He answered all of my questions, politely said goodbye and within a few weeks, I had my FFL license. Keep good orderly records, obey the laws governing firearms sales whether you agree with them or not, pay the appropriate sales tax and you shouldn't have any problems as long as your locale doesn't prohibit your home business.
